The Relative Care Certificate Program is a Department of Health and Social Services program managed through Delaware Institute for Excellence in Early Childhood. The Delaware Department of Health and Social Services, Division of Social Services, contracted with the DIEEC to manage the Relative Care Certificate Program. (http://dhss.delaware.gov/dhss/dss/)
The Delaware Institute for Excellence in Early Childhood provides professional development workshops for providers in the Relative Care Program. The program was designed to educate Relative Care Providers in theory and practice of Early Care and Education so they have the tools to provide quality childcare. The program delivers forty-seven hours of training to each provider. All classes are offered 3-4 times per year in each county. The content of the workshops includes:
- Child Development
- Positive Behavior
- Helping Parenting
- Peer Interactions
- Health Modules
- CPR/ First Aid
Each new provider receives a customized training plan based on previous training. Providers should expect a new schedule of trainings sent to them every 3 months. Upon completing training hours, providers will be sent a letter of completion.
